Welcome to our website!

Middlesex County 4H Fife and Drum Corps is the original junior level fife and drum corps of Massachusetts, formed in 1972, and consistently performing ever since. The fife and drum corps is a current 4-H club within the University of Massachusetts Extension youth program, which makes it unique in both its leadership and operation. There is an experienced team of instructors, as well as very strong parent involvement, but it is the youth within the corps that decide on music to be performed, events for the season, and their levels of involvement within the group. All members share a love of music and history, and are proud to continue the tradition of fife and drum, by first learning and then teaching the next group of recruits. The corps participates in parades and civic ceremonies each year, including the First Night Parade on New Year’s Eve in Boston, the Sunset Parade at the USS Constitution in July, and for over 30 years, Middlesex County 4H Fifes and Drums have been the Honor Corps for the Concord Patriots’ Day parade, saluting each group as they proceed over the historic North Bridge to commemorate the start of the American Revolution.

For Parents

Our directors, executive board and instructors are all volunteers.  We ask that parents participate in the organization of the group in any way that they can, whether it is something as simple as posting recruitment flyers, keeping an eye on everyone while getting ready for a performance, or as complex as sewing/repairing uniforms. We have an organized snack schedule for the mid-rehearsal break and each week a different family is asked to bring in a snack for practice. We also have gatherings from time to time and ask that families contribute as they can.

For Instructors/ Volunteers

Are you interested in helping 4H? We are always looking for more instructors in fife, drum, and color guard/marching. Prior fife and drum experience is required, and alumni are always welcome! Please contact us at MC4HFD@gmail.com for further information.
